Maintenance
A piece of jewelry carries memories, emotions, and personal meaning.
To keep your 18-karat gold or platinum jewelry looking shiny and beautiful, it's important to take good care of it.
Below we provide you with some tips and advice.

Professional inspection
At Huis Vander Avort, we recommend having your jewelry checked and professionally cleaned by us once a year.
This is how we check the settings of gemstones to prevent them from falling out. We polish the surface to restore its original shine, or our workshop returns the jewelry to its original condition by matting it.
Platinum and 18-karat gold are exceptionally durable, but even these materials require maintenance to ensure they can be enjoyed for generations.
Daily use
Avoid contact with products:
Harsh chemicals such as cleaning products, perfume, or hairspray can damage your jewelry. Therefore, it is best to put it on after you have finished getting ready.
Chlorine in swimming pools affects gold alloys and can weaken the metal. This causes gold jewelry to lose its shine, discolor, and even risk losing its settings. We therefore recommend that you always remove your jewelry before swimming.
Be careful during activities:
When exercising, gardening, or doing other intensive activities (washing dishes, cleaning, and renovating), it is best to remove jewelry to prevent scratches or damage.

Cleaning at home
Cleaning gold and platinum: Use lukewarm water with a mild soap (such as Dreft) and a soft brush (such as a toothbrush with soft bristles). Rinse thoroughly and dry with a hair dryer.
With every purchase, we provide special cloths to polish your jewelry. Did you not receive these? Ask for them during your next visit.
Avoid abrasive materials: Never use toothpaste or other abrasive products, as these can cause scratches.
